Keyfix Non-combustible Cavity Solutions are BBA Certified

Posted on 24 Feb 2022

Designed and built for best practice on site, Keyfix’s unique range of external cavity wall solutions have been awarded BBA Certification and are NHBC Accepted. This provides architects, contractors and specifiers with full assurance that the entire system has been tested to the highest industry standards.

The Keyfix Non-Combustible Cavity Tray System has been awarded a BBA Certificate and is the only non-combustible cavity tray system to not rely on tapes and mastics to make watertight joints, therefore eliminating one of the main reasons for product failure. The system is approved by both Premier Guarantee and LABC Warranty following their comprehensive review of innovative products and systems.

The increasing requirement for non-combustible materials for buildings over 18 metres has led to the development of Keyfix’s unique range of external cavity wall solutions which hold an A1 fire rating and are fully compliant to Building Regulations Approved Document B (ADB).

Commenting on the BBA certification, John Duffin, Managing Director at Keyfix said; “This endorsement by the UK’s leading construction certification body is a huge achievement for us as a team. Our team worked incredibly hard to develop a system that exceeds the minimum standards set out in ADB (Approved Document B) and this accreditation is a testament to that. At Keyfix we do not believe that the target for product development should be the minimum allowable standard.”

Manufactured using only Class A1 non-combustible Grade 304 austenitic stainless steel, the Keyfix Non-combustible Cavity Tray (NCCT) is a ‘Fix & Forget’ solution, featuring a self-supporting, single-piece tray that clips together for fast and easy installation. No additional fixings, sealants or onsite fabrication are required by the installer; therefore installation of the trays will not impede the speed of bricklaying when compared to traditional DPC. Completely self-supporting, the Keyfix NCCT system is installed in the outer leaf with no connection with the inner skin and therefore eliminates thermal bridging and removes issues associated with differential movement and onsite tolerances.

The system has been developed to meet the practical needs of brickwork contractors and requires no additional specialist skills on-site. The component range also includes the Keyfix Non-combustible Retaining Disc (NCRD) which has been designed to retain insulation on all Type 1 masonry-to-masonry wall ties and has a unique patented spring loaded action, which clamps the stainless steel insulation retaining disc to the main body of the wall tie.
